Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers about private local history, deliberate capture, permissions and buying cliiip for your Mac.

Getting started

What does cliiip do?

cliiip is a native clipboard history app for Mac. It keeps supported text, images and copied files easy to find, lets you pin useful clips and gives you control over what gets saved from each app.

Does cliiip work offline?

Yes. History, search, sensitive-content checks and optional encrypted history between launches all run locally on your Mac.

Does cliiip start recording as soon as I install it?

No. Clipboard history stays off until you explicitly enable it. After consent, cliiip begins with the next copy and does not import clipboard content that existed beforehand.

Can I save only selected items?

Yes. Choose Dedicated Capture and use your configured shortcut only for the selections you want cliiip to remember.

What happens when I copy images or files?

cliiip can keep image previews and references to copied files. It does not duplicate or back up the originals, so they must remain available.

Privacy and permissions

Does my clipboard history leave my Mac?

No. cliiip processes clipboard history locally and does not provide cloud clipboard sync.

Do I need an account, and does cliiip use analytics?

No. cliiip does not require an account and does not use analytics, telemetry, advertising cookies, tracking pixels or cross-site tracking in the app or website.

Does cliiip require Accessibility or Input Monitoring?

No—not for ordinary history, search or Copy. Dedicated Capture and optional One-Action Paste can ask for macOS Post Events permission after you trigger them; macOS displays this under Accessibility settings. cliiip does not use Input Monitoring for these features.

Will cliiip catch every sensitive item?

No. Pattern-based safeguards can miss sensitive content. Exclude password managers and other sensitive apps using rules for individual apps rather than relying on detection alone.

Compatibility and purchase

Which Macs run cliiip?

cliiip requires macOS 14 or later and supports both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

How much does cliiip cost?

cliiip is a one-time purchase. The Mac App Store shows the price and currency for your storefront.

Where can I download cliiip?

cliiip is available on the Mac App Store. Use the App Store link on the cliiip website to download it.
